If a slicker and more comfortable pair of over-the-head earcups has been developed, we haven?t seen them: the k701 Premium Class Reference Earphones won our earbud-toting editors over. Silky smooth, detailed sound leans warm, but lets highs pop and creates a vivid stage. Listening is enhanced dramatically by velvet-covered cans, which you won?t want to take off?maybe ever. And the white and chrome body matches the iPod, to boot; a genuine leather band up top adds old-school class. They?re too large to carry around, but for in-home listening with an iPod or stereo, this is our top pick. Our review unit came with a 1/4? plug, 3.5mm adapter, and 10-foot cord; AKG?s currently deciding whether to release this in the U.S. with a plug just for portables, or as-is.

AKG K701 Over-ear Headphone Review
Though the purpose of this review was more to build a bank of headphones to compare open-backed cans to compare to in the future, theAKGK701 introduced in 2007 are still impressive to this day. With a great frequency response, extremely comfortable wear and open soundstage, these are a good entry to mid-level pickup for those who are fans of an analytical sound. Though these headphones have more or less been re-born through re-branding as theAKGQ701s, the addition of flashy colors and a new title haven?t changed their good performance. They aren?t meant to go outside with, but audio nerds chained to their desks will love these headphones.
TheAKGK701s are a mid-range set of cans that see wide use in the DJ and mixer community. With a flat frequency response and wide open soundstage, it?s not hard to see why. Though these cans aren?t as good as studio monitor speakers, they will work in a pinch and not do the same to your head. All-around great cans.

The AKG K540s aren't quite perfect, but they're a great buy if you're looking for some portable headphones.
Some smartphones are supplied with a cable that includes a mic and an in-line controller along with a jack for any pair of headphones, but they're few and far between. For everybody else, AKG's HA 450 kit contains the missing elements, and is compatible with all smartphones, including the iPhone, although it can't control the volume on Apple's smartphone.

Es wird nicht jedem gelingen, wer aber den K 702 einmal probehören kann, sollte dies unbedingt tun ? allzu schnell wird man nicht wieder einen so guten Kopfhörer auf die Ohren bekommen. AKG hat mit dem K 702 ein Gerät vorgestellt, welches das Attribut ?Studioequipment? allemal verdient. Was aber nicht heißt, dass man sich zu Hause um diesen erstklassigen Kopfhörer drücken müsste ? ganz im Gegenteil.

AKG Q701
The AKG Q701s are a truly excellent pair of headphones, with which Quincy Jones can be proud to be associated. Their wide, flat and accurate sound puts them in a great position in competition with similarly priced headphones from Sennheiser, Beyer Dynamic, Grado, and others with the choice between the options one of preference, not outright superiority.
In the Q701s, AKG has produced a truly excellent pair of Quincy Jones-endorsed headphones.

Nobody in full possession of their mental faculties would expect a pair of headphones with Justin Bieber 's face on the box to be any good. But Quincy Jones , the producer of Michael Jackson's Thriller album, is a different matter. As he's championing AKG's high-end Q 701 headphones, we expected these cans to sound pretty special. You can pick them up in a white, black or eyeball-melting lime version for around £400 online. AK-Gee, these feel nice The 701s look similar to their K 702 siblings, which we reviewed in 2009. The large earcups may not be quite as comfortable as those of the Audio Technica ATH-W1000s -- those earcups are as comfy as having two puppies sleeping on your face -- but they're still wearable for hours at a time. The metal and leather headband also fights for the cause of comfort, adjusting smoothly to accommodate even the largest and most balloon-like of heads. The 701s are open-back headphones -- the outside of the earcups is made from a plastic mesh that allows the sound to come through. As such, you probably won't want to use these headphones when surrounded by co-workers, unless you enjoy being punched in the face. While the plastic mesh feels fairly sturdy, it also feels disappointingly cheap. The earcups proudly proclaim the headphones' Austrian provenance. The 701s come with a detachable cable. AKG also supplies a spare, which is a lovely touch, since cables can wear out far quicker than the headphones themselves. Sounds like love The 701s claim to be premium reference headphones, so we expected some serious audio delights to ripple through our brains. Thankfully, we weren't disappointed. Vanessa Carlton's beautiful Home was reproduced with such excellent clarity that we came over all romantic and proposed marriage to her via email. She hasn't replied yet. Similarly, we were delighted by the details we could pick out in Sigur Ros' Staralfur . Closing our peepers, we almost felt we were listening to the string sections being played live in a concert hall. Even at high volumes, there was minimal distortion. The headband slides into place smoothly, making these a comfortable set of cans. The 701s don't perform quite as well with bass-heavy music. The deep bass of the Prodigy's Take Me to the Hospital didn't cause our skulls to rumble in quite the same way as it did when played through the Sennheiser HD 650s , for example. While bass is still punchy and clear, we wouldn't recommend these headphones for fans of deep, pounding dance tracks. Rather, the 701s are a great option for listening to classical or acoustic music, as they handle mid and high frequencies with aplomb. Note that you also probably shouldn't consider these headphones if you only listen to low-bit-rate MP3s via an iPod . These headphones are built to reproduce high-quality audio at a minimum of 320Kbps or, ideally, in a lossless format. Conclusion The AKG Q 701s are a fine set of headphones, and Quincy Jones has made a sound decision in associating himself with them. Bass isn't their forte, but their crystal-clear mid and high frequencies make most music a delight to listen to, and they're comfortable enough so that you won't have to give your noggin a rest every half an hour.
The AKG Q 701 headphones deliver superb sound quality with a high-end clarity that's all too rare. But we were slightly underwhelmed by their bass response.

AKG has enlisted the help of legendary music producer god, Quincy Jones, with its new range of high-quality headphones. Musicians endorse all sorts of things and for all sorts of reasons, and even good ones don't necessarily have good sonic taste – we can vouch for that from personal experience. But we are much less inclined to be cynical about AKG's gesture of donating a share of the proceeds from these headphones to Jones's foundation which aims to make music education 'an ongoing part of the lives of American children'. We're all for that. And we're all for new, high-quality headphones. We've been properly spoiled recently by some memorably fine models from Grado, Sennheiser and Audio-Technica and we're in the mood for more. New tech AKG has a good track record and we've fond memories of models going back decades. With the new Q701, features that stand out in the specification include flat-wire voice coils and two-layer diaphragms. Both of these are relatively common in loudspeakers, but the smaller dimensions of headphone drive units make them harder to implement and AKG must have spent some time over the microscope working these out. Flat wire allows voice coils to be wound more efficiently, with less wasted space, than the usual round wire, while diaphragms using two-layer construction can be quite less resonant and, therefore, more accurate-sounding than most single-layer techniques will allow. Built to last There's a wild choice of colours in addition to the silver samples pictured – go to akg.com and check out the lime green option! Build quality is of a high standard for the asking price. The earcups are metal, as is the inside of the headband, which is covered in real leather: we found it a little hard on our (admittedly bald) head, but this is quite a comfortable headphone, self-adjusting thanks to cunning elastic support of the earpieces. The lead is replaceable (you even get a spare) and is almost completely immune to mechanical noise transmission, one of our pet hates. Live aid Headphones, even more than loudspeakers, can get away with murder if one listens to them for long enough to get acclimatised. To put it another way, first impressions are very important – that's when you really hear the colorations. We were, therefore, most impressed when we put these on and were greeted by some delightfully natural tonal balance. For best effect, we deliberately opened the listening with a recording made two hours earlier, of which we could still remember the live sound very clearly. The Q701 didn't quite bring back the colour of the carpet or the smell of the upholstery in the recording venue, but it did recreate remarkably faithfully the voices, the piano, the hall ambience and even the passing traffic! HD800: time to worry? Just as welcome, it did nothing to boost the mild hiss on the recording, something that a great many headphones do – hiss and sibilants in general. Again, one can quickly get used to that, but it's still inclined to produce headaches over long listening sessions. By contrast, this headphone, if anything, just got better the longer we listened. To cut a long and very pleasant story short, it is actually everything AKG claims it is. In a word, accurate. If we have one very slight quibble it is over what seems to us the slightest trace of hardness in the upper bass, but otherwise we just loved the tonal balance (deep bass is glorious, and quite effortless), the detail, the imaging and the general sense that real music is happening somewhere right in front of one's seat. Rhythm is great, dynamics are vast, complex textures are handled with the same unflappable calm as a solo. Good recordings sound great, bad ones sound, well, as good as they're going to.
