Motorola Atrix
In das Motorola Atrix verliebt man sich nicht auf den ersten Blick. Es ist unscheinbar und könnte etwas wertiger sein. Aber unter der Haube gibt es hier ein Feuerwerk, von dem die Konkurrenz noch träumt: Die Ausstattung ist auf allerhöchstem Niveau, die Entwickler durften sich an Highlights wie HDMI-Ausgang mit Media-Center-Oberfläche oder Fingerabdruckleser spielen und das Smartphone ist in der Praxis so schnell, dass seine Benutzung einfach Spaß macht. Und dank des starken Akkus klappt das alles sogar ohne größere Kompromisse - wenn man mal davon absieht, dass Kamera und Sprachqualität noch etwas besser sein könnten.Dazu gesellt sich noch das umfangreiche, aber optionale und vermutlich teure Zubehör, auf das wir noch einmal an anderer Stelle eingehen werden. Für die Markteinführung in Deutschland bleibt zu hoffen, dass der Preis nicht zu hoch ausfällt.
Allein das optionale Zubehör wie das Laptop Dock könnten schon ein Kaufgrund für das Atrix darstellen. Aber auch das Android-Smartphone an sich überzeugt mit Innovationen und guter Ausstattung, etwa dem im Ein-Aus-Taster integrierten Fingerabdruckleser, den HDMI-Ausgang oder der Dual-Core-Prozessor. Jetzt bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass Motorola einen bodenständigen Preis für das Atrix ausruft.

The Atrix is a top-notch phone with a speedy processor. It handled everything we threw at it, including games, without any hesitations. With the Gingerbread operating system, the Atrix may well be the jack-of-all-trades that does many things and actually does them all well. The USD 100 price point with a two-year contract also adds to the attraction of the phone.. Although the Atrix?s processor may qualify it as the world?s most powerful smartphone, until it is on a true 4G LTE network, it won?t be the fastest.. Motorola Atrix
As a standalone phone, the Motorola Atrix competes well against the dual-core Android competition due to its high res screen, unique fingerprint scanner, great battery life and comfortable form factor, though is let down by a mediocre camera, some unnecessary interface tweaks and limited video support. As such, it rather depends which you prioritise. Add in its dock accessories, though, and it shines out brightly. There is something undeniably cool about having one device perform so many of your daily functions. Unfortunately these docks don't come for free and the lapdock in particular simply can't compete for functionality with a laptop, netbook or even tablet. If and when Android updates come that more comprehensively support it then it could be amazing but as it stands, it's a nice to have, not a must have.

Without doubt, the new Razr looks absolutely fantastic. Manages to pack in a lot of power in what Motorola calls "the world's slimmest phone". While it isn't bullet proof, you can still boast about the Kevlar layer on the rear panel! The only thing we say going against it is the price, when up against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy SII and the HTC Sensation, all offering similar performance. Maybe it's the looks!

We don't usually feel confused by a phone. But the Razr offerers so much with one hand, then bats it away with the other. We like the unusual design. Motorola hasn't just "done an Apple" and built a clone phone. What it's done is thought about the style and design, and put together something that impresses from the moment you hold it.. We like the screen, although we're not crazy about AMOLED, we quickly found that it was bright, clear and detailed. The 256ppi 4.3-inch screen is not, technically, that high resolution, but it didn't look especially coarse to us, and we soon settled in to its typical AMOLED green tone. Gamers will love the vibrancy of the colours too, which are very impressive. We still think that the iPhone and HTC Sensation have the best screens on the market - the iPhone wins, because of its high resolution IPS display - but the Razr doesn't disappoint either.. If the battery life wasn't good, we'd moan about the lack of removable power, but we don't have any major longevity issues. We hate the micro SIM, but that's just the onward march of progress.. The speed, for us, is a worry. Why do we see stuttering when returning from the menu to the home screen. The stock text message app is a little oppressive too, with its dark colours and basic layout. We suggest you check out Go SMS in the Market, if you want something more stylish and customisable.. The Motorola customisations are fine, for the most part. The messaging app for email and social networks is reasonable, but we don't like all of our interactions jumbled up in to one place, so, long-term, we wouldn't actually use it.. Das Defy ist ein interessantes Handy, das den Spagat zwischen robustem Gerät und ansehnlich ausgestattem Smartphone gut meistert. Alle Hobby-Sportler, Frischluftfanatiker und Naturfreunde, die bislang aus Angst vor Beschädigung auf die Mitnahme eines Touch-Handy verzichtet mussten, können nun auf ein unempfindliches Handy mit modernem Betriebssystem zurückgreifen. Das Defy steckt einen Sturz aus Gesichtshöhe gut weg und verfügt zudem über einen sehr kraftvollen Freisprecher. Besonders gut haben uns die Funktionsvielfalt, die Ausdauer und die Texteingabe per Swype gefallen. Abzüge gibt es für die teils ruckelige Performance, die Fotoqualität und die nicht gut schließenden Schnittstellenabdeckungen.

Die Ausstattungshighlights "normaler" Outdoor-Phones lassen sich in wenige Worte packen: MP3-Player, Taschenlampe und Kompass, viel mehr gibt es nur selten. Da ist das Motorola Defy eine erfreuliche Ausnahme, denn es handelt sich hier wirklich um ein vollwertiges Smartphone mit allen Möglichkeiten, die das Android-Betriebssystem bietet. Noch dazu sieht es nicht aus wie ein Gummistiefel, sondern ist halbwegs attraktiv - und hat ein hell leuchtendes, gestochen scharfes Display.Mit diesen Argumenten wird man zwar keinen überzeugten Apple-Design-Fan und iPhone-Käufer überzeugen können, aber jeder, der häufig draußen unterwegs ist und auf der Suche nach einem neuen Smartphone ist, sollte sich das Defy unbedingt näher ansehen. Denn im harten Alltagseinsatz auf der Baustelle, in den Bergen oder in den Canyons hält es auf jeden Fall länger durch als die Apple-Konkurrenz.
Wer mehr in der Natur als im Büro unterwegs ist, hat bislang gezwungenermaßen einen Bogen um die tollen Touchscreen-Smartphones gemacht: Sie sind einfach zu empfindlich. Anders das Motorola Defy, das den vollen Android-Funktionsumfang mit einem stoßfesten und wasserabweisenden Gehäuse kombiniert. Overall, the Motorola Defy is a confusing one. Its rugged nature is not inherent when you pick it up ? people who want a phone for a workshop or building site might enjoy it, but that?s a pretty niche market. Things like the Car Dock, where you can quickly access navigation and music apps, are a nice touch, and the camera is swift and pretty decent too. But the lower-grade OS, slight lag during operation and very lightweight feel mean it?s going to be more out of necessity than desire that you pick up the Motorola Defy.

Motorola Gleam
The Motorola Gleam is an homage to the company's legendary Razr handset. The Gleam is attractive, basic and cheap, offering thrifty buyers some bling for their cash. The Gleam is available for around £50 on a pay as you go deal from the Carphone Warehouse and other vendors. You can also pick it up SIM-free for around £90. Razr sharp We can't blame Motorola for attempting to rekindle happy memories of the Razr's wafer-thin frame with the Gleam. The Gleam, however, is fashioned mostly from plastic, rather than brushed metal. The front of the Gleam has a glossy finish that attracts fingerprints like nobody's business, and the vast expanse of shiny plastic is only broken by the 2-megapixel camera. Once a call or text message comes, though, a hidden dot-matrix screen makes its presence known. It's a deliberately retro touch, and we're rather taken with it. The cool glowing white LEDs on the bottom of the phone reactwhen you open and close it. This pocket-sized light show continues, with a set of LEDs located on the bottom of the Gleam. These pulsate when you open a close the clam-shell mechanism, as well as flashing when you receive a call. Another neat touch is the throbbing effect that occurs when you plug the handset into a wall charger. Clamming up Clam-shell phones are something of a rarity nowadays, making the Gleam feel quite old-fashioned. The hinge that joins the two sections of the device also seems rather flimsy, and we noticed a small amount of wobble in both the open and closed positions. The keypad is inspired by that of the original Razr, but it's made from a single piece of flexible plastic, rather than aluminium. The physical buttons reside beneath this plastic sheet, and have a very slight degree of travel when pressed. Initially, we felt the keys were unnecessarily large, but it doesn't take long to become accustomed to them. Indeed, texting on the Gleam is practically effortless. When compared to the huge displays on the HTC Desire HD and LG Optimus 2X , the Gleam's 2.4-inch screen seems ridiculously small. Placed alongside other phones in the same price bracket, however, it's practically par for the course. Dumb and proud of it The Gleam is described by Motorola as a 'feature phone', which is a term manufacturers use when desperately trying to avoid the term 'dumb phone'. Although the budget mobile arena is currently being invaded by Android-based smart phones such as the Orange San Francisco , LG Optimus One and Samsung Galaxy Mini , Motorola has chosen to go with a proprietary operating system for this handset. It's been a while since we saw buttons this large on amobile, but the Gleam's keypad is a joy to use. The results are predictable. There are no apps to mess about with, and the Java-based games that are available are painfully basic when compared to what's currently doing the rounds on the iPhone App Store. You'll also have to make do with a simple music player and a slow Web browser, which is made even more sluggish by the absence of 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity. In fact, the Gleam offers little in terms of technology that wasn't available on the original Razr. The 2-megapixel camera is also rather underwhelming, offering dismal photo quality and terrible videos. The still and moving images created using this phone are acceptable for distribution via MMS, but little else. Should you still wish to get snap-happy with the Gleam, you'll need to invest in an microSD card pretty swiftly -- there's only 5MB of internal storage available. A 3.5mm headphone jack permits use of your own earphones,but you'll need to invest in an microSD card first. Expandable memory is certainly recommended as the Gleam comes complete with a 3.5mm headphone jack, which means you can use your own cans to listen to MP3s or the built-in FM radio. You'll be able to happily indulge in both of these activities for quite some time too -- the Gleam's battery life is much better than that which you'd normally get from a smart phone. Conclusion If you can do without 3G connectivity and smart-phone features, the Motorola Gleam is currently one of the best handsets available. Too often are buyers on a budget reduced to using handsets that look rubbish and are painful to operate. The Gleam happily bucks this trend by offering gorgeous looks and intuitive functionality.
The Motorola Gleam is a cheap and shiny homage to everyone's favourite flip phone of yesteryear, the Razr. It's a good choice for those who value simplicity.

Das Motorola Flipout ist ein Smartphone mit drehbarem Touchscreen. Dahinter befindet sich eine Tastatur mit extra Ziffernzeile. Die integrierte 3 Megapixel Kamera verfügt über einen digitalen Zoom. Funkverbindungen können über WLAN und Bluetooth hergestellt werden. Zusätzlich ist ein GPS Empfänger verbaut. Als Betriebssystem kommt Android in der Version 2.1 zum Einsatz.

Motorola Flipout
Auf den ersten Blick sieht es aus wie Spielzeug, unter der Haube ist es aber ein echtes Smartphone: Das Flipout ist durchaus etwas Besonderes, und durchaus gar nicht schlecht. Leider fehlt es ein bisschen an der Liebe zum Detail. Motorola hätte die Oberfläche stärker an das kleine Display und die geringe Auflösung anpassen und hier und da noch etwas mehr Wert auf Perfektion legen müssen. Außerdem ist das Flipout leider nicht so günstig, wie wir es erhofft haben.
Das Motorola Flipout ist ein attraktives, witziges und auffälliges Smartphone, das aufgrund des Android-Betriebssystems schier ungeahnte Möglichkeiten bietet. Leider ist die Oberfläche nicht besonders gut an die kleinen Abmessungen angepasst.

It has all the hallmarks of handset for the youth market: interchangeable back, strong social networking with Motoblur and even a Data Mode that lets PAYG users track credit. But it also offers features you?d normally find on high-end models like the Milestone: including ?N? WiFi, the full QWERTY keyboard and Exchange support.
