Es soll noch immer Leute geben, die bei der Eingangs erwähnten Kombination ?Acer? und ?Smartphone? die Nase rümpfen. Und was in der Vergangenheit sicher nicht ganz unangebracht gewesen ist, scheint sich mittlerweile erübrigt zu haben. Denn: Das P400 belegt, dass die im letzten Jahr in Teilen sicher berechtigte Skepsis mittlerweile überholt ist. Dabei ist völlig klar, dass man es hier nicht mit einem absoluten Überflieger zu tun hat. Wer also tatsächlich eine Art ?iPhone-Killer? erwartet, überschätzt das Acer-Gerät trotz des in eine ähnliche Richtung weisenden Designs doch deutlich. Versteht man das P400 dagegen als den Versuch, ein solides Mittelklasse-Gerät auf den umkämpften Markt zu schmeißen, so lässt sich sagen: Dieser Versuch ist geglückt. Die Grundlage dieser Feststellung ist eine insgesamt ansprechende Gesamtvorstellung, die in keinem Fall überragend wirkt, dafür aber auch nie Ansatz für größere Kritik bietet. Die solide Gesamtvorstellung basiert neben dem ansprechenden Äußeren und der bei dem Preis angemessenen Ausstattung vor allem auf der weitgehend sauberen und flüssigen Bedienung. Diese ist zu einem guten Teil auch dem überarbeiteten Windows Mobile 6.5.3 zu zuschreiben, das insbesondere im Vergleich zur Vorgängerversion einen deutlich besseren da flüssigeren und übersichtlicheren Eindruck macht. Der Test des P400 war für uns deswegen auch aus einer betriebssystemtechnischen Perspektive interessant, da man hier das überarbeitete Windows Mobile ohne das Schminkwerk einer draufgelegten Hersteller-UI in freier Wildbahn erleben kann. Abschließend kann vor diesem Hintergrund somit ein positives Fazit gezogen werden: Wer grundsätzlich etwas mit der Marke Acer anfangen kann, keinen großen Wert auf hochwertige Kamera-Schnappschüsse legt und dabei bereit ist, dem Unternehmen auch im Smartphone-Segment eine Chance zu geben, kann das P400 in der Mittelklasse getrost in die engere Wahl nehmen. Das neoTouch P400 ist seit Mitte Mai in Deutschland erhältlich und kann bei den üblichen Providern im Rahmen von unterschiedlichen Tarifen zu entsprechend variierenden Preisen erworben werden. In der freien Variante ist es bisher kaum verfügbar und wird zudem häufig deutlich über der UVP von durchaus angemessenen 299 Euro geführt, sodass dahingehend interessierte Leser unter Umständen noch ein Wenig warten sollten.
Mit dem P400 präsentiert Acer ein Mittelklasse-Smartphone, das mit einer guten Ausstattung und dem neuesten Windows Mobile locken soll. Wir testen, was das Gerät taugt.

I like the feel of the phone, and the interface. It is slow at responding to some tasks but I think this is down to the the UI and the amount of memory available to run the software, but at the price and with all the features this phone comes with, I think it?s definitely good value for money!Theis one of Acer's best efforts so far, now I wonder what they can do with the!?In response to a Windows Mobile 6.5, it looks like people have managed to upgrade it with 'cooked ROMs', but not via an official update from Acer, so far.

What Laptop Issue 128: Acer F900 HD
The F900 HD is the second smartphone from Acer since it acquired phone manufacturer E-Ten last year and is a smart-looking handset. The 3.8-inch screen is bettered in size by some of its rivals on the market, but it still offers impressive clarity, with deep and bright colours. It's great for watching fi lms on, although we found clips often stuttered to a halt and you'll have to lower video quality settings if you want to play them back smoothly. Acer has installed a generic software shell over the top of the Windows Mobile operating system. It's not as neatly implemented as HTC's TouchFLO software, but it works well in most situations. The onscreen keyboard could be better, however, with poor correction software that can make text messaging tricky. The handset itself features a pleasing design, with glossy plastics on the front and hardwearing matt-black rubber on the rear. Touch-sensitive hotkeys sit below the screen, for easily navigating the OS and making and receiving calls. A full range of features are included, with connectivity comprising HSDPA and Wi-Fi for web browsing, and Bluetooth and GPS. With 128MB of RAM, there is ample storage space and more can be added via microSD card. On the rear, a 3.2-megapixel camera produces average images. The Acer F900 is a good-looking handset. But, while the screen and specs are good, a capacitance screen is missed, and the Acer Shell won?t cut it for serious users. As such, while it is reasonable value, it doesn?t offer quite enough to set it apart from longer standing manufacturers such as HTC.
Acer launched a whole collection of Tempo branded smartphones at Mobile World Congress in February and now the devices are trickling into UK retailers as SIM-free only options.

Das beTouch E101 ist günstig - aber nicht unbedingt preiswert. Acer hat offensichtlich höchste Priorität auf einen niedrigen Verkaufspreis gesetzt und somit an allen Ecken und Enden gespart. Auf der Strecke geblieben sind vor allem schneller Internetzugang und Displayqualität. Zu Zeiten von Youtube, Flickr und anderen bandbreitenhungrigen Online-Diensten hat der Hersteller den Preis zu stark gedrückt. Ein "echtes" und leistungsfähiges Smartphone, etwa das Touch 2 mit Windows Mobile 6.5 oder das, kostet im günstigsten Falle eben noch knapp 300 Euro. Ansonsten ist starker Verzicht angesagt.
Das beTouch E101 gehört eindeutig zu den günstigsten "echten" Smartphones am Markt - immerhin kommt es mit Windows Mobile 6.5, für das haufenweise Programme zum Download bereits stehen. In der Praxis überzeugt das Gerät aber nicht: Um Kosten zu sparen, mangelt es am Wesentlichen. Display und Touchscreen sind nicht auf dem Niveau aktueller Smartphones und es gibt keinen schnellen Internetzugang.

This is a rather short review I'm afraid. Not because I'm being lazy but because it's a basic Windows Phone. If you read the site regularly you will have seen us review dozens of WinMo phones and you probably know the OS as well as I do so I'm not going to waffle on about it.The Acer beTouchis not a bad device but is extremely basic. I suspect the only type of people to buy it may be someone who is really just after a nice looking touch phone for making phone calls and texting their friends. The issue here is that will these folks be willing to spend nearly £200 on a phone that may look nice but doesn't perform as well as others. You could get another phone that does more and has 3G and WiFi for less money than the Acer but I shall not name drop here!I realise that all manufactures have lower-end devices but I find this one to be a bit of an oddity. I'd consider Windows Mobile to be a high-end OS so it seems strange to have a device that's trying to sit at the bottom end of this market where is crosses over, price-wise, with the higher-end feature phone.If you do fancy getting the Acer beTouchhead on over to. If not then they have a fine selection of other devices too.

By bringing the fastest Android phone on the planet to market, Acer has good reason to be proud of the Liquid S100. Packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and super hi-res screen, there's a lot to get excited about on this phone.Acer might be a relative unknown in the mobile world, but that hasn't stopped it making an impression with first the Windows Mobile NeoTouch S200, and by bringing top-end specs and the Android OS, the Liquid S100 will be seen by some as even better.But one constant problem with Acer phones from the past is that despite bringing some nice parts, they often fail to be anything more than average in general use. So can the Liquid change that?The phone looks pretty basic out of the box, with a white plastic shell encasing a 3.5-inch screen, but with the large amount of plastic border around the display, it doesn't look anywhere near as big as the iPhone or Samsung H1.The four touch-sensitive buttons at the bottom offer basic Android navigation, and the hieroglyph look is pretty neat.The left of the phone houses the power/lock button, and the right has the volume and shutter buttons. Pressing the former is pretty easy one handed, but the chassis creaks a little from time to time.Weirdly, Acer has decided to go for a miniUSB slot on the Liquid, which seems a little old fashioned. The slot is located on the bottom of the phone, and when charging, a little white battery indicator appears on the top of the chassis, next to the 3.5mm headphone jack, which was a neat touch.The phone has a single speaker on the back, next to the camera, which is adequate but pumps out basic 'chav on a train' sound quality.Pulling the battery cover off is a worrying experience – it seems digging your fingernails in at the top and pulling rather hard is the way to do it, and it feels very much like you're going to snap something off.Overall, the feel of the phone is a little cheap – the plastic of the white chassis and silver buttons makes it feel a little toy-like.In the boxAcer offers a simple range of accessories in the box – a miniUSB connection lead and separate charger are a nice touch, and the bundled ear phones are decent enough, doubling as a hands-free kit too (although without media control). We're still yet to learn how to use screen protectors on a mobile yet without adding a million bubbles to the screen, but you get a few of these in the box too.There's also a 2GB microSD card, as well as an adaptor to turn it into a full SD card too. This is pivotal, as the phone won't save any media or photos to the 512MB inbuilt memory for some reason.

Acer ist ein Neuling im Markt - und das merkt man. Die Software ist deutlich besser als bei den ersten Smartphone-Versuchen des Herstellers, kann aber mit den Marktführern nicht mithalten. Ähnlich ist das bei der Hardware: Es fehlt nichts - abgesehen vom letzten Quäntchen Qualität, das den Unterschied zu den Branchengrößen eben ausmacht.Doch dafür stimmt der Preis. Für Deutschland nennt der Hersteller noch keine Summen - in Singapur aber soll das neoTouch S200 888 Singapur-Dollar kosten, was circa 430 Euro entspricht. In Anbetracht des schnellen Prozessors und des hochauflösenden Displays hat Acer also doch ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal gefunden. Interessenten sollten das S200 vor dem Kauf dennoch einmal in die Hände nehmen.
Im Vergleich zu früheren Smartphones von Acer ist das neoTouch S200 ein Schritt in die richtige Richtung. Es überzeugt mit ordentlicher Ausstattung, schnellem Prozessor und einem verhältnismäßig günstigen Preis. Aber es ist eben noch nicht auf dem Niveau aktueller Windows-Mobile-Smartphones von HTC oder Samsung.

Overall the, F1, S200 has a lot of impressive features, the processor and the screen are brilliant, as I have not played with the HTC competitors in this area I think Matt will need to stack them all together and give an overall comparison, but I am confident this will be up there with the best available.Sitting at around the £320 to £350 mark, this is an awful lot of kit for your money and definitely worth a look if you are in the market for this type of device.For me, I am not convinced with these oversized devices, small, sleek and pocketable units are more preferable to me. That said for those gamers and video watchers of you I am sure you will love it.

As you can probably tell this is in my opinion this is not one of the best phones that I have tested and reviewed, don't get me wrong, as a cheap version of a quite highly spec'd device, the inclusion of Windows Mobile 6.5, GPS, quad band, HSDPA etc. means that theis very useable, and I am sure that a lot of people will use and like the.For me though the omission of WiFi and all the other small annoyances, together with the unpractical keypad really did put me off.That said I have been spoiled lately with some super phones, and it is now obvious more than ever that you do get what you pay for and my parting comment would be that the is probably a bit of a bargain for anyone wanting an entry level Windows Mobile handset. The beTouch E110 is a budget smart phone that runs Android 1.5. You have to accept compromises in a phone that's this cheap, so it's no surprise that it packs a resistive touchscreen and lacks Wi-Fi. But, for basic tasks and for keeping connected with your friends, it'll probably do the trick

What Laptop Issue 132: Acer neoTouch
The Acer neoTouch is the third smartphone we've seen from the company since it acquired phone manufacturer E-Ten last year, and the first to feature the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. The front of the handset is dominated by the 3.8-inch display, with a robust glass coating that offers a quality feel. With a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, it's a sharp screen, and colour reproduction is very impressive. Most of the phone's functions are carried out using the touchscreen, with a stylus stored in the top right corner. The Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system is better than older versions of Windows Mobile, with larger, finger-friendly icons and more intuitive menus, but delve a little deeper and you'll still find lots of tiny options where you'll need small fingers or to use the stylus. It also lacks the slickness and aesthetic appeal of rivals such as Google's Android OS, although at least the phone's 1GHz processor makes it a fast and responsive device. The onscreen keyboard is fine for short text messages, but it lacks the excellent text correction software found on rivals such as the iPhone, HTC Magic and HTC Touch Diamond 2. As such, you'll have to prod very precisely at the small onscreen buttons, otherwise mistakes are frustratingly easy to make. Triple connectionsWireless connectivity is impressive, with 3G/HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth all built in as standard. These let you browse the internet on the move and also connect to home and office networks. Google Maps software comes preinstalled and, with assisted GPS included, you'll also be able to use the neoTouch as a satellite navigation device. Other pre-installed software includes Office Mobile –with portable versions of Word, Excel and Powerpoint – letting you get to grips with work applications on the move. Acer has stuck with Microsoft's Internet Explorer's web browser, rather than the excellent Opera browser found on other smartphones. That said, the large screen still makes it easy to browse the web wherever you are. The 5-megapixel camera features a dedicated shutter button on the side, automatically switching the phone into landscape mode for shooting. Image quality is disappointing, however, with colours lacking vibrancy and noise present in darker conditions. That said, there is a bright LED flash, helping slightly with night-shots. Limited memory The 256MB of user memory is limited, but there's also a microSD card to add further storage space. Those adding memory cards to store their music collection will be happy to find the inclusion of a regular 3.5mm headphone jack – making it easy to use your own headphones. Battery life is disappointingly average, lasting for only a couple of days between charges under moderate use. Overall, the neoTouch S200 isn't a bad phone.
